Tuscan Walking Retreat & Pilgrimage
VIA FRANCIGENA PILGRIM PATH
ITALY
28th Sept - 5th Oct 2025
Our Via Francigena Walking Retreat takes you on a unique journey where ancient paths and spiritual traditions merge with modern comfort and the spirit of adventure.
We will foster a sanctuary of both inner and outer peace as we embark on this historic pilgrimage route.

This intimate and exclusive 8 day retreat is a unique opportunity to take time out to discover a renewed sense of self, as well as fostering space for community, connection and friendship with fellow pilgrims.
Join us on this transformative journey and discover ancient trails and breathtaking landscapes as you immerse yourself in the spiritual richness that defines the Via Francigena.
The Via Francigena is often called the Italian Camino for its similarity to the classic Spanish pilgrimage. This ancient pilgrimage route connects Canterbury in England to Rome in Italy, passing through France and Switzerland. We will be walking the picturesque Tuscan leg of the route, which starts in Lucca and ends in Siena.
After spending our first day and night connecting and preparing in the hills of Lucca, we will then commence our Via Francigena walking journey. Over the following seven days, we will travel through various villages, historical sites and stunning landscapes to arrive at our final destination, the magnificent town of Siena.
This magical route covers around 110km and is regarded as one of the most beautiful and picturesque routes.
Along the way we will get to indulge in the delicious local cuisines of the area and stay in delightful and authentic Tuscan homes, guest houses and villas.
This programme combines the deep facilitation practices of a transformational retreat with the enigmatic experience of a historical sacred pilgrimage. It will leave you recharged, reset and ready to return to life as the best version of yourself!

Detailed Agenda
LUCCA
SEP 28 - 29
We arrive to our private apartments in the historical centre of Lucca, with plenty of space to stretch out, get to know each other and set intentions for the week ahead.
Lucca is an historical delight, an extremely well-maintained walking city full of palaces, churches and enchanting spaces.
LUCCA TO SAN MINIATO
SEP 29 - 15KMS WALKING
We leave for our first day hiking the ancient Via Francegina. Today we will transit to the medieval town of San Miniato, a peaceful Tuscan jewel spread across three hilltops.
The town is famous for producing a quarter of Tuscany's white truffle crop, which we will no doubt have opportunity to sample as we pause in town for lunch.
After lunch, we will continue south on foot, following the path through stunning Tuscan landscapes to our afternoon arrival at our four-star country resort.
SAN MINIATO TO MONTAIONE
SEP 30 - 15 KMS WALKING
Today we spend exploring a quiet corner of ancient Tuscany, well away from the tourist path.
Along the way we will visit historical sights and small villages including the sleepy spa town of Gambassi Terme, before arriving at our stunning farm estate lodgings for the evening. A Wellness Path spa experience awaits, along with optional additional treatments.
We will dine together at an exceptional restaurant on-site, celebrating the best of the farm's estate and local produce.
MONTAIONE TO
SAN GIMIGNANO
OCT 1 - 14 KMS WALKING
Today's hike takes us through more amazing rural landscapes as we approach the World Heritage - listed marvel of San Gimignano.
With a forest of 13 towers piercing the horizon, the 'Medieval Manhattan' is iconic Tuscany, and our schedule will allow for plenty of time to soak up the sights and atmosphere before retiring to our accomodations right in the historical centre of town.
A night out in an outstanding local restaurant will cap off this milestone day.
SAN GIMIGNANO TO
COLLE DI VAL D'ELSA
OCT 2 - 14 KMS WALKING
With a beautiful parting view of San Gimignano over our shoulders, we will continue heading south.
Colle di Val D'Elsa is regarded by historians as an ancient 'twin' city to San Gimignano, with their fates diverging significantly over the centuries. Today it is the centre of a lively crystal-making industry.
Tonight we lay our heads at a gorgeous restored 12th century monastery, now a four-star hotel. Dinner will be on-site at a very special restaurant.
COLLE DI VAL D'ELSA
TO MONTERIGGIONI
OCT 3 - 13 KMS WALKING
Often dubbed 'the gateway to the Middle Ages,’ Monteriggioni is the quintessential medieval town, encircled by well-preserved stone walls and fourteen towers. Built by the Sienese in the thirteenth century as a stronghold, Monteriggioni also grew wealthy as a strategic stop along the Via Francigena pilgrimage route.
We will complete today's journey at our nearby four-star country spa resort, with included Wellness Program and spa access and optional additional treatments.
MONTERIGGIONI
TO SIENA
OCT 4 - 24 KMS WALKING
OCT 5 - CONCLUSION & DEPART
Our final day of distance hiking leads us to the gates of Tuscany's most famous city, and the official endpoint of our via Francigena pilgrimage.
We will have completed over 100kms of hiking across the most beautiful section of one of the most ancient pilgrimage trails in the world.
After exploring this incredible historical town at leisure, we will regroup later in the day at our lodgings within the walls of the old city.
